The Tips Regarding How to Deal With a Broken Tooth

Posted .

Dental emergencies can be scary and quite nerve wracking, but it’s important to stay calm and keep a cool head. Then, there are certain things you need to do. Today, Dr. Samuel Schmitz and our dental team would like to give you instructions on how to handle a broken tooth.

The first thing you need to do is call our office at 812-853-3313 and schedule an emergency visit. Next, rinse your mouth with water to wash away any blood or debris in your mouth. Then, reduce swelling and relieve pain by placing a cold compress outside the injured area and taking over-the-counter painkillers.

Second, try to find all of the pieces of your tooth. Once you find them, keep them in a safe place. You’ll need them for your appointment. When you come to our office, your dentist will try to put the pieces back into place.

Third, consider protecting your teeth with a mouthguard. A mouthguard can keep your smile in tip-top shape while you’re active and it can help you prevent oral injuries because it shields the chompers from hard, forceful objects that can hit them.
