The Process of a Dental Checkup

Posted .

Do you have a dental checkup in the near future? If so, there is no need to be nervous! Dental checkups are simple and painless. In fact, they involve the following things:

A deep cleaning
Our dental team will first deeply clean your smile by scraping the plaque and tartar off your teeth with special tools. This is a very important technique that reduces your chances of developing gum disease. Then, we will thoroughly floss and rinse your smile, cleaning the hard-to-reach areas of your mouth.

A fluoride treatment
Fluoride is a very important mineral for the teeth. It nourishes and strengthens your chompers so they can fight off tooth decay. We happily provide a professional fluoride treatment when you come into our office. This treatment will come in the form of a foam, gel, or varnish, and it will likely be flavored. When you are ready, we will place the fluoride into your mouth and will ask you to wait for a few minutes. As the time passes by, the fluoride will soak into your smile. When the time is up, you will rinse your mouth with water.

A dental exam
The oral examination is also a very important part of your appointment. Your dentist will simply perform a visual inspection on your smile and will possibly use small tools to do so. This exam will not hurt whatsoever. To further inspect your smile, our team will take X-rays of your teeth, roots, and gums, and your dentist will examine those X-rays to make sure you do not have any hidden dental problems.

Now that you know what to expect during your dental appointment, you are all prepared! Make sure you brush and floss your teeth before you sit in our dental chair. If you have any questions or if you would like to know more about dental cleanings, please call our office today at 812-853-3313 and talk to a member of our caring dental team.
