Implants vs. Bridges: What to Know

Posted .

Having teeth replaced is a bittersweet experience. On one hand, it’s great to finally have teeth that work properly again. Then again, it does mean that your oral health suffered enough to get to this point.

When you get to this point, you’ll have a few different options to choose from for your new teeth. When you have so many choices, it’s hard to pick just one. Today, we’ll walk you through two of the more popular options.

Implants
A dentists will likely recommend implants if you have the gum and jaw bone health necessary to support them. Implants are simply titanium posts inserted directly into your gums. Those posts are then covered with a dental crown. The new tooth looks so real that only a professional like our dentists can tell the difference between an implant and a real tooth.

Bridges
Bridges are a great option if you have multiple teeth to replace, and they’re next to each other. A dental bridge uses surrounding healthy teeth to support a new crown in place of your lost tooth. That means you don’t need to have anything inserted into your gums.

Which is best?
Implants aren’t inherently better than bridges, and vice versa. However, for some people, one option is better than the other. The team at Family Dentistry in Newburgh, Indiana, will work with you to make sure you find the best choice.
